“Planning is priceless, plans are useless.”
- Dwight D. Eisenhower
he core focus of Vision to Action’s services in strategic business planning is to help our clients analyze the gaps between the current situation & their vision for the future and then to set measurable objectives and develop tactical plans that will guide the action the business needs to take to achieve its vision.
We don’t think plans are useless but we are more invested in the planning process than we are in the outputs. This is because as soon as you start to put your plan into action, the world moves on. Plans are like economic theory; they assume perfect conditions and rational behavior. For this reason, we don’t encourage too much attachment to goals or plans – they are a starting point for focusing energy and resources. Too much attachment can lead to myopia or a lack of flexibility or responsiveness to changes in the market.
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”
- John Lennon
At Vision to Action, our primary goal is for our clients to change the way they think so that they’re always in planning mode. We help them to learn the structure and discipline of planning so that it changes the way they act; so that their actions become considered, conceptual, systematic and, of course, purpose driven. We don’t discourage spontaneity; in fact we embrace it… providing it is not recklessness or an old habit of avoiding the hard work of thinking. We advocate spontaneity from a place of mindfulness.
“Every minute spent in planning saves ten minutes in execution”
- Brian Tracy
